Socialization

I agreed with the information this article is presenting. It starts out with explaining 'probing' and how managers will evaluate employees at random times to make sure their performance in the company is strong. I believe this is a great way for the company to be organized and keep employees on track. It is stated in the article, "The Paradox of Corporate Culture" that the objective is to build cohesiveness, participation, and close identification with the firm. The next part of the article discusses the steps of socialization. First step is careful selection of entry-level candidates. Second is dealing with self-comfort and self-complacency. Third step is the most effective and it deals with extensive and carefully reinforced field experience. Forth step is measuring operational results and rewarding individual performance. Fifth step is identifying common values with the involvement within the organization. Sixth step is explaining the code of conduct, which means :how we do things around here." Finally the seventh step is consistent role models and consistent traits associated with those recognized as on the fast track.

  1. Managers do need to evaluate their employees at random times, I agree. Otherwise, there is a very good chance a good percentage will get lazy. If they don't think their managers will pay attention or care, they're probably not always going to put forth their best performance. Cohesiveness is very important in a company, and this is built off strong communication and socialization. This article showed very well the steps of this.
